Hi all new to the forum first post, as I have gained so much information as a guest thought i would pass on what cured my leak in the passenger footwell. Almost from new had a leak went back to the dealership several times no succsess, they did seal the joint on the heater fan which reduced the amount of water getting in. Then realised it only let water in when parked on level ground. Directly above the heater joint is bonnet hinge, water puddles around the hinge so unbolted, sealant on both surfaces back together and no more leak!

Now being a Defender you could run a length of chain to run the water down.
Failing that for capillary action you could run a short length of plastic strip (clear polycarbonate so it's not too visible) to draw the water away from the vehicle. We do this on an awning at home & it is very effective.Visitor - Freelander owner

We fitted some e-bay caravan gutter extenders with a self-tapper screw and tiger seal to fix - maybe a bit over the top but we've had dry footwells ever since.
