I just want to share my experience with engine monitoring system I have installed recently.
I wanted to monitor "vital signs" of my Defender TD5 (coolant temp and level, EGT temp, oil pressure). I have read a lot of positive reviews and very good experience people have with Madman´s EMS 2 and recently with EMS 3 all over the net. Despite the relatively high price this unit would cover all I want (and probably more). Then I stumbled at this: Click image to enlarge Not quite what I wanted (no EGT and oil pressure, engine temp instead of coolant temp). But there is alternative: Click image to enlarge Now the coolant level is missing and there is still no oil pressure monitor... The seller said they can re-program the gauge, but there are max 3 inputs to monitor and sorry - there is no oil pressure sensor (yet?). I decided I`ll take a bite and settled for engine temp, EGT temp and coolant level sensor. Most important to me was that alarms can be preset and alarm is sounded when parameter is out of bound. And there is non-intrusive capacitance sensor for coolant level detecting. This is how re-programed gauge looked like: Click image to enlarge And installed: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I have yet to install EGT probe - some drillling required so must mentally prepare myself At the moment EGT probe is resting in the engine bay straped to the wing and just measuring air temp. Finaly - I cannot stress this enough - I had realy good experience with the seller (have no connection whatsoever with). Great communication, prompt answers, detailed technical infos, they sent me picture of reprogramed gauge and gave me an option to rearange icon & digit position or change colours. All I need now is a long holliday trip. |

Thanks for the comprehensive information, always appreciated when someone take the time to share their experience.
Madman including the sensor kit is very expensive in my view, alternatives are welcome. Please keep us updated on any news and experience. |
