In the car park
A number of years ago we were at a meeting for parents with children with special needs. After the meeting when we went back to the car park the was a young child running her hands over the Defender. I knew her and her parents from previous meetings and events. Her father said he hoped I didn't mind but his daughter found the shape of the Defender fascinating as it was not just smooth like an ordinary car. I said I did not mind at all and told his daughter to fire away. I remember looking at his wife wondering if I could chance my arm with a similar request.... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My Uncle and his business partner were artists. They used to work a lot with adults and kids and at one point did a lot with deaf and blind children. They made un-commissioned a Trojan Horse sculpture about 30 years back up in the North East.

The horse was mainly wood but had many different areas fitted into the abdomen and neck with materials and textures, sounds, shapes etc with the view of using it as an aid for children with sight loss and also special needs etc.

It was a big old thing. It was about eight foot long and six feet tall at the top of its head. Apparently it was a great success and was used by the local authorities and charities. Everyone liked it. It was a bit of fun, but had a useful role as well as being a talking piece.

It was leant out a lot and then re-lent and I think it went missing in the end and they never did find out where it ended up. Probably on a bonfire somewhere?

That story, spudfan, reminded me of the Trojan Horse. There are plenty who will stroke their hand across a sports car, but there is something very tactile about a Defender in both shape and form. Plenty of corners, shapes, rivets, that most of us will understand. Well at least those of us who wash our Defenders Whistle

Great story Thumbs Up Good ending Rolling with laughter

A similar thing happened with a child who was sight impaired some years prior to the above.
