2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black

Superwinch Husky Resto Questions

I’ve been having bad thoughts about buying a knackered old Superwinch Husky as a project, but before I waste my cash, a couple of questions.

1) is an 8000lb model strong enough for recovery duties on a moderately loaded a Defender 110? Am used everyone having 9500lb winches minimum these days.

2) is there anything I need to look at before purchasing that might render the winch unslavageable? I.e, unobtainable bits, or certain damage? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I'm pretty sure that the Camel Trophy used the 8000lb Husky. Darren

A Husky 8000 is more than capable for use on a Defender.

Have rebuilt mine previously and would pretty much say that the only important bit is the worm box. Dismantling of the rest is pretty simple.

I have actually got another Husky which i was hanging onto as a future rebuild project but could be tempted to sell if you are interested?

It is probably the best electric winch of its size ever made, far higher quality than more modern value-engineered winches (the only serious contender is the 8274). It is more than capable of coping with a fully laden vehicle.

I've rebuilt two recently and it seems to be possible to get almost all parts still.

8000lb is more than enough for most needs with a 110, if its struggling just add a snatch block .

while a slow winch they are long lasting and well built.

much better than the cheap Chinese ones

Thanks Steve, if you want to PM me some details and how much you’re looking for that would be great. I should say I’m not 100% decided on the if I’m going ahead yet, but if it an irrestiable offer it might make my mind up

I've rebuilt a few (got a couple stashed in the garage all ready to go!)

As others have said, it's a great solid winch. albiet a bit slow but meh, who's in a rush when doing a reccy?

They are heavy as well, so consider some HD front springs.
