May I ask if you also changed the sprockets?
Family member, his 2.4 is close to 150kmiles, and I have suggested to him to plan this service. When I check out the parts for him, I can find a variety of kits, some with sprockets, others with just chains and tensioners. Do you know what brand Turner supplies? I'm not changing the sprockets, after an investigation, they are in good condition with no obvious signs of wear.
I spent ages trawling through different kits from £110 for a complete chain kit plus sprockets and new timing cover to £675 for the same stuff. In the end I used Turner as they use all the components on their website in their engine builds, if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me |

How much did you spend in the end and do you have an idea of how much a mechanic will charge for it? + or - obviously. Mine has done nearly 100000miles and I want to try and get that done next year. Thank you Fábio |

Judging from Badger's first photo, the chain is one pin diameter x2 longer than the original.
I do not know what diameter that pin is, but if it was 3mm, that would be a wear of 45microns/roller. So probably difficult to see any wear, if any, on the sprockets. If there is wear, i think it will be more pronounced on the intake cam sprocket, as there are far less teeth in mesh with the chain. Has anyone been able to determine chain stretch based on crankshaft and cam shaft position sensor readouts? Probably would need a baseline, but possible to calculate back the stretch on the length of chain between the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft sprocket? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
