The switch on the gearbox?
Mine used to flicker so I bought a new switch, but when I went to fit it I found that the original was only finger-tight in the gearbox. After tightening it up properly the reversing lights have been fine ever since. So I now have a spare switch! If you do have to check the switch, I found that the easiest way to access it was to remove the centre tray or cubby between the front seats, then remove the access panel in the seat box. With a little difficulty the switch can then be accessed throught the resulting hole. Although a bit of a pain to do, it is easier than accessing it from underneath. |

Hi and welcome
As to the reversing light, I would check the gearbox switch and connection followed by checking the loom for any signs of damage back to the light fitting, also checking the plugs for signs of oxidation/corrosion and cleaning any found. This diagram is for removing the gearbox but shows the location and how to get to the reverse lamp switch. Click image to enlarge HTH Brian. |

I too had this problem and put it down to it being the switch which i found to much of a pain to bother with. Had the hand brake re-call done at the main dealer (LR) and asked for a new LED bulb to be fitted and they fixed it at the same time so probably only something loose. Plus it was free out of warrenty!

Thanks all for your swift responses - thought it may be the switch but had no idea where to start looking - although I do now so will add that to my list of jobs tomorrow.
Still contemplating a trip back to dealer though as I have: - a very annoying metallic rattle when going over minor bumps and holes in the road at low and higher speeds (done plenty of searching on here so I have my ideas as to what it could be!) - a high pitched whine / whistle more often than not at higher speeds but also intermittently at low speed - sometimes I can play a tune using the accelerator pedal! Other than that really enjoying life trundling along watching the world go by! Life living on the edge of Salisbury Plain (with dog and mountain bike in the back) has taken on a whole new meaning!!!!!! |

Sorry - I'll be accused of straying off topic but yes I try to get on the Plain everyday - and feel very lucky for it! I am careful however to only go where allowed and with neighbours in the forces aware that there are some big exercises going on there at the mo!
If you see an 07 black 110 trundling about then thats me! |

Possibly http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic7768.h...ads+rattle The second - turbo spooling up or turbo pipe / gasket leak. Possibly. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Rear brake pads (assuming it's a 110 or 130)
Turbo, air intake, or more likely a hole in the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler. If the latter, probably the old problem of the pipe rubbing on the clamp bolt on the steering column where it enter the steering box. Welcome to the delights of Puma ownership! |

Thanks for advice - removed cubby box & accessed top of gearbox through hatch - reconnected loose white swicth that had come off its mount and replaced wires back in their cover sheaths.
Still no reversing light but found a big thick black cable bolted at one end seemingly to gearbox assembly and hanging free at the other - looks at though it has melted at the free end. Any ideas where this should be attached too??????????!!!!!!!!! (Have taken pics but can't work out how to add them?) Thinking a call to the dealer and a trip back to enquire about this and the whistle / whine and the rattle!!!!! cheers Churchy |
