Came out to the defender this evening to find that both key fobs seem to do nothing…
I can open the central locking with the key manually, but can’t disarm the immobiliser to start the car or anything. Have tried pressing the button multiple times in quick succession to no luck. Don’t think the battery is flat (have driven it a few times recently) but have put it on trickle charge overnight just in case that does any good… Any suggestions where to start assuming that doesn’t do the trick? I had the same problem and have today updated my thread about it here:
https://www.defender2.net/forum/post898129.html#898129 Note my recommendation about focusing on the RF receiver first on ALM equipped Defenders with this problem. Cheers, Guy. |

Thanks. I’ll give that a go this evening before I do anything more drastic. Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Sorry, I’m no expert on this, but from what you’re saying it sounds like I have the newer system (with the new fobs etc) which is different to your td5 anyway? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Some light reading re ALM ecu’s.
Following the AS10 there seems to be two ALM ECU types. First one between 2012 -2014 - old fob type, ALM ECU part number CH- xxxxxx Second one 2014- 2016 new Lear fob with chrome strip and external Lear radio receiver next to ALM ECU. ALM ECU part number DH- xxxxxxx Both black, as opposed to the AS10 green alarm unit prior to 2012. https://remotekey.co.uk/land-rover-keys-re...larm-ecus/ Explains issues with CH-xxxxx plus other versions https://www.m1n1.de/en/alm_ch12_immobilizer/ - gives an idea of what’s behind problem on CH - xxxxxxx versions. It seams the DH- xxxxx are having similar issues with a brownout rewriting to the memory as the CH versions do, and this is caused by a low main starter battery or battery disconnection. Note I wonder if going through the official process of turning ignition key so dash lights come on, then removing key and disconnecting the battery earth within 15 seconds avoids this issue when disconnecting the battery ? https://www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/downloads/preview/alm-ecu Some more insights from nanocom. |

Not sure exactly what it means but I charged the battery overnight, disconnected it and reconnected it just now and all seems to be working fine again!
Suppose time will tell if it was a one off glitch or the start of an intermittent fault! But at least I have something to try if it ever happens again! Thanks for the input all! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

If you read my first post in that thread you will see that I’m talking about my 2014 Defender XS. I wrote the update today on the basis that it was a reasonable assumption that you had used the forum search and already found that thread. Your alarm will be the same as mine. Cheers, Guy. |

This may help from another post on here. The second one seems to be your issue.
There were 2 Land Rover technical bulletins released for the alarm system in the Defenders. LTB00893 is for vehicles from 2007-2013 VIN 732615-446832 – This bulletin is available as we no longer supply the old type alarm system (10as) due to the supplier no longer producing this product. There is not a known concern with the unit however if a fault occurred with the original unit the later system can be fitted to a vehicle. LTB00877v2 is for vehicles from 2014-2016 VIN 446832-490328 – This bulletin is available for concerns when the alarm system does not work but if the battery is disconnected and then re connected it works correctly again. If a module was due to fail in this way we would expect to see this early on after the vehicle has been manufactured. Trouble is I can’t find a copy of LTB00877v2 to find out what it says, can anybody point me to a copy or post here for the OP to read. |
