I’ve got a set on my 90, and yes the powder coating is awful but they are galv so don’t rust. I found that when washing them the coating would come off before the dirt.
In time I will take them off and paint them but it’s never really bothered me that much. As for fitting, they were really easy to fit and didn’t need any trimming of the wheel arches. |

Same on mine. Powder coating over galv just doesn't work. But then it clearly wasn't prepped correctly. Am planning to have mine blasted off and start again.
But the product itself with the exception of the coating is very good. Very robust. The 130 ones don't tell you you have to cut the rear body to fit them. But hey ho. What defender accessory ever actually fitted first time The 110 ones were fine on mine. |

Makes me think it might be better just to ask if they can do a set in bare galv and then finish them myself 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

If you could get a set in plain galv you could do a proper job of painting them, would be worth asking that’s for sure

They lasted about 2-3 years on mine before the first coating chips appeared. Depends which way you want to go really.

Mine have started peeling (just where the side steps fold up ) but overall very well made bit of kit and tbh i like the patina of the peeling

I don’t mind patina if it’s from an expedition across the Kalahari, or 50 years on a sheep farm, but less keen if it’s just shoddy quality 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I have safari equip tubular sidesteps, galv and powder coated. After 4 years almost daily use, the powder coat has hardly changed whenre my foot stands on it and is completely black everywhere else still --i'm amazed by it 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |

I needed to trim both the front and rear arches but not by much, there are a few photos on this thread if it helps. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic68566.html Incidentally, mine have been on for 4 years, maybe a touch longer and the powder coating is starting to lift in places, the pressure washer has blown a few bits off and a large amount is missing from the tree slider bar where the O/H uses it as a step. In hindsight, I wish I had bought the plain galv ones and painted them myself, at some point these ones will get stripped and painted. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop 1989 300Tdi 90 Soft top 1992 200Tdi 90 Truck cab with Land Cruiser axles |

I really wish they’d made them 5-10mm shorter so that the arch didn’t need trimming. I really don’t want to cut mine. Other than that I’d be buying a set. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

These are well made sliders, have had them fitted to Miffy for 8/9 years now. The powder coating lasted about 5/6 years. Scraped it all off, primed and painted them black. Added some grip tape at the same time as when wet the bars are slick if used to get up in to the Defender. The next time they need refurbing (and there will be a next time) I will probably used a black Raptor coating on them.
The front wheel arch needs trimming, but only a small amount off the lip that wraps the wing. See below: Click image to enlarge As for their strength, I have had to lift the 110 up using them a number of times when ruts have become too deep. They have also taken a good amount of abuse from other car park users... |
