Interested to hear any replies to this.
My 300tdi has always had a light clutch, even after a replacement was fitted (including new fork) But pedal feel has always been variable when driving any distance. A bit confusing because it can be rock steady predictable for a 200 mile trip, or feel different every 10 miles to the next during a similar journey. Always works but just doesn't always feel 'right'? |

Clutch pedal bushes dry/sticky would be my guess, but it could also be the thrust bearing slide or the clutch fork pivot point. Wear or lack of lubrication in any of these can lead to a stiff or inconsistent pedal.

One other potential cause could be the flexible hoses getting hot.
I had a Lotus Elise which had a tendency to have the same issue. In this case it was the original flexible hose passing alongside the radiator hose. Replacement with a stainless braided hose resolved the issue. Obviously a very different lay out to the Defender but might be worth check if any heat / hot gases are somehow affecting the flexible to the slave cylinder. Hope you get it sorted. |

Thank you all for your comments and guidance. Just inspected the Flexi Pipe and it does look a little sad. So will change this and see if it improves the feel.
