Hi guys! I'm looking to install a Safety Devices L247 cage to my upcoming 130 build. Issue is I'm 6ft7 and have to run MUD seat rails to stop my knees from operating the indicator and wiper stalks and I'm somewhat concerned about clearance to the internal B hoop for seats and head room. I'm hoping someone here with a similar internal hoop could take a tape measure to it for me in the coming weeks as I'm unlikely to find one to sit in at a show any time soon...
I'm looking for the following rough dimensions: a) Headliner to bottom of bar b) Distance from the b pillar to outer edge of hoop c) Seatbelt bracket relocation point from original Click image to enlarge I know this could be very easily avoided by simply ordering the same cage without internal B hoop but I'd prefer to have it, as currently with extended seat rails I sit so far back that belt is at no point in contact with my chest Cheers Stuart Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

Out of interest do you happen to know what the mpn is for just that that internal hoop? Cheers

Crikey! That was quick Much appreciated jst
Think you could measure roughly to where the belt bracket would have gone? Stuart Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

If you get stuck I can get the tape out, but not got the headliner back in yet...
Hopefully will this weekend though! |

If you're 6'7 it won't be the head position or the belt position that gets you, it'll be the shoulder position Vs the bar. You'll find you hit your shoulders on it next to the seat when it's put back to the right position on mud rails.
My brother has a 130 (joe-130 on here) and is also 6'7. We tried as it's safety improvement in a roll is significant, but the space is just too small. You won't fit and you'll find your shoulder is sat on the bar and your head is far far too close to it. The other issue with them is the head hits them in an impact. So the German TUV won't type approve them with an internal hoop fitted. Not a great indication that they give an overall safety benefit. |

Interestingly mine has a different profile down the b pillar. It seems to come in tighter than shown in your picture with a double angle to the vertical Cheers

Thanks James for that quick nip out to your 130 for me
Not sure what the product number is for just the internal hoop, if one even exists. Interesting to read your comments about the different bend pattern. I suspect if that's the case they may have redesigned it, as Matt points out, shoulder clearance may have been a known issue. I'll ping them an email regarding it in the morning. Out of curiosity, when James roughly did you buy the cage? I see Matt, your brothers was roughly installed 2016 or before. I'm also considering mounting the seat further inboard like here, except a bit more engineered given my err... driving style?! Thanks again all! It was indeed. 2016 is about right. They may have changed the profile I guess.
I do remember thinking that with my brothers seat in the correct position for him to sit, for the bar to actually be in a sensible place for him to be comfortable the bar would need to be half way across the rear door. Whereupon it's basically back at the C pillar external hoop anyway and blocks rear entry through the rear doors. So we gave up with it. I had to go with the same logic on my 110 USW. I'm 6'2 and would've arrived at the same issues. Hopefully it's changed for you and it works but if you're 6'7 I don't understand how they could put it anywhere but half way back across the rear door for you to fit like my brother does. |

Being tall is so over-rated. Much happier with my 5’8”. Width a bit of a problem though... The even tighter profile that bar creates inside the b-pillar would be a nightmare. I already struggle with shoulder width as is. To lose 50mm plus the tube width (think SD use 45mm) is quite a bit.
Hope you find a solution Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Is that the one you bought from me James?
How do you find it and, out of interest, did you cover it in foam or anything to prevent a head injury during an accident? For anyone else if that hoop is a problem have you considered the rear section that sits behind the 2nd row seats? Although not as close to you it would still offer some protection at the expense of cargo space. Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |
