Makes you wonder if this is less to do about genuine copyright and is more to do with JLR wanting to 'kill off' the public' generations-long association of the brand Land Rover and Defender in favour of the new model. You can see just by doing an on line search for 'Land Rover Defender' that they've spent a fortune on Search Engine Optimisation to get the new Def to the top of the pile, it hasn't happened by chance or genuine user number searches. Perhaps this is more of the same, and that the reception of the Defender (and unit sales) has them worried? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Crazy! I have quite a few paintings by Emma on my walls, and also a nice set of placemats with her work on. I have them because I’m an enthusiastic follower of the brand.

I can only think it stems from a reluctance for the artist to sign over her works and profits to Land Rovers marketing machine. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I doubt it has anything to do with the new Defender. More Land Rovers greed.

I’m sure they tried the same with the author of the Landy kids books. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Emma Lawrence from Shrewsbury was told that her artworks of Land Rovers were in breach of copyright

“It makes no sense,” she said. “It appears that I cannot describe my illustration as a Land Rover but can call it a ‘landy’ or Landrover.

“It seems extreme not to be able to describe something as a Land Rover when it is recognisable and has almost become common language, like the word ‘hoover’. I am not trying to sell a replica, but a drawing of something I see in everyday life.”

JLR said Lawrence’s use of its trademarks gave the appearance of it being licensed by JLR.

Perhaps she could call it a Jeep and really Censored of JLR management, especially as they could not stop the Grenadier because to the masses the ‘shape’ they were trying to claim as their own was mostly thought of as a Jeep by the public. Whistle

This once loved Company seems hell-bent on continually shooting itself in the foot.

Someone please tell the Top Man of the stupidity in destroying all the brand loyalty that has been built up by the Company over many decades, by so many of his predecessors.

^^^. It seems hugely ironic that LR fight to protect an iconic image they themselves have slowly been eroding by creating amorphous, identikit blobs. I understand that it's an industry fad, but Gerry was particularly adept at it. Spot the difference: Whistle

That just sums up Land Rover's current offerings. How tedious.
