New Defender Owner
Hello fellow Defender owners. Picked up my 2020 Eiger Gray p400 HSE last weekend and getting accumulated to the truck. First Rover and been in various BMW’s for the last couple of years. Everything is new and trying to figure things out

put already 900 miles with a couple decently long trips and enjoying the very comfortable ride

but it seems i might be having some issues and wanted to see other members are experiencing the same

1. twitchy steering at higher speeds. not sure exactly how to describe it but on the freeway and over 70 i feel the wheels and the chassis constantly swaying back and forth. kind of like being in very windy conditions but actually not. Turned off lane departure and still the same feeling. feel it when driving straight and at these speeds and it feels the car is moving slightly back and forth. i have the 20 inch wheels with Michelin Lattiitudes

2. poor keyless go distance. posted this in another forum and seems to be common. I am not able to use the keyless door entry even though the key is in my front pocket and no phone near it. i literally need to take the key out of my pocket to open the door. not all the time but it’s pretty annoying having to reach for my keys.

beside those two issues that seem reoccurring the truck has great. Unlike others that refer to all SUVs as trucks i describe the Defender as a very luxurious comfy truck. I came from a BMW X5M and drive other sports cars so getting into the Defender with its high driving position and air suspension makes it a very great long trip family hauler. It does not take the twisties at all compared to my X5m but getting used it

have a bunch of oem parts on order including the fender protect, mud flaps, black lettering ( didn’t get black pack) A frame and debating the roof rack. Honestly prob never take it off roading but just looking for some more storage space for trips

Welcome to the forum

I can’t comment on the Defenders keyless entry as I’ve yet to get mine but on my velar it’s works a treat, just touch the button on the door handles and the car unlocks. Would’ve thought the Defender would be the same. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Welcome to the forum Ehloo.

Not sure I can help on the wobbly drive but have you turned off the lane departure in both places? On the steering wheel and on the central screen in the driver aids settings? Even when switched off at both places it still runs in the background but rarely interferes. Also over the air update 2.06 from early December damped the intervention of the LKA considerably.

With the keyless entry, this has been a contributing factor in Europe to a huge number of thefts of cars - criminals are able to buy scanners on well known auction and sales websites and in previous keyless systems the fob had a relatively high powered signal continuously transmitting that these guys could capture by walking a couple of metres behind you and re-transmitting the signal to a friend standing beside your car. The car makers tried rolling coding but the crims soon got around that and now the signal strength is so low that you have to stand within about 2 feet of the car to use the touch button on the car door handle. If mine won’t unlock I find often just moving my pocket to face the car is enough for the sensor to read the signal. Blame us Europeans for building expensive and luxury cars that people want to steal! Land Rover wasn’t the only car maker to suffer this issue - BMW and Audi had an even bigger problem with keyless entry systems and car theft. In my previous LR’s and my Mini I could often stand on the other side of a car park and aim the fob at the car, press the unlock button and it would from maybe 50ft away, but it does not work with the new Defender. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Thanks Tim, i didn’t change the main screen lane departure settings but did today. i seem to still have the issue

it’s a bit nerve racking as the truck seems not want to track straight without my input. this might specific to my truck

20 years ago - I had a Ford Orion - that used to wander on the motorway at 70 MPH

I had tyres balanced and swapped around position - no difference.

A year or so later - new tyres fitted - problem went away... something was wrong with 1 or more tyres causing it...

So have the tyres thoroughly checked.

Definitely look into what Simon mentioned. I used to be a tire tech as a summer job back in college - tire tread can do this to you, especially mismatched tread. If your outfitter allows you the option, try a new set of the same make/model, then try a completely different make/model and see if it goes away. Good luck. '21 L663 X-Dyn HSE P400 Carpathian
