Still hardly any snow here 20 miles north of Glasgow but last night the temperature dropped to -11C again so a bit chilly.
The car hasn’t been used for 3 days and hasn’t been washed in over a month now so it looks like it’s had the dirty satin wrap!

Bit of snow a bit further up & right on the map. Only -6c this morning but with clear skies it’s going to be a bit nippy tonight.

Skippy with a bit of a snow mullet going on.

Not mine yet, though thought this group wouldn't complain about another photo.

We tested-drove a new Defender today to see whether it fitted the family. We had about 50cm of fresh snow overnight and the temperature was -8c. Given last week was -25c the snow was standing on compressed snow and ice. The local snowploughs had been out in force so there wasn't any deep snow. Though there were piles where the wind had blown it.

The car was on winter tyres and the dealer suggested running it in the snow program. On the road, with compressed snow it ran as expected. On hairpins there wasn't much slip but I was conscious of the weight into downhill corners. Most of the time we were at or near the Swiss speed limits.

We then tried to take it on the steepest local road which I knew wouldn't have had so much attention. Again stopping on the steepest part and then starting again was no issue. The car offered a launch program but in truth it did perfectly well without it. Going down hill descent did its thing.

Finally we took it into an area with soft prepared snow - a bit like a gently prepared ski piste. Here it was obvious the car was trying to manage traction but it got out with little sliding and without much effort from me. I suspect most 'normal' cars, even AWD ones, would have bogged down. The tracks were about 20cm deep.

All the family preferred it to the other cars we've been looking at (previous favourite was a RR Autobiography). I suspect we'll order a p400e HSE.

My 110 Classic BBQ is doing well as a bird feeder too - starlings especially seem to like finding morsels inside it

Good bit of snow in Glasgow today. Seen a few cars sliding down a hill next to me before abandoning it. Stuck mine on snow setting and no problem right up the hill. Having some fun in the snow today since there’s nothing else to do

God that looks good. I’ve been very much unconvinced with the new Defender, personally it just didn’t appeal to me. This pic is the first one where I’ve gone “ooohh I’d like one of those”. Looks immense in this spec

It’s melting quickly here, I’ve just been to Stirling and the Forth flood plain is well flooded and big puddles to stamp in on the road! Surprised how many cyclists are out on the main road too, cannot be great trying to cycle through the flooded bits.

Off Topic
While I was at Sainsbury’s a new Defender in Carpthian Grey parked in the car park. On the private plate 21CS which was until quite recently on an LS3 Defender 110 Classic which was in at the same detailers for a wash and valet while my car was in for PPF wrapping

Here are pictures from my first weekend with my new Defender. I was hoping to post some more impressive snow but Mother Nature hadn't cooperated.

Sorry for the delay in responding. The garage has been closed for sales since I took the car out because of the new Swiss Lockdown rules. Added to this we've had lots of snow so they put all the cars on the forecourt inside so they could run their snowplough around. Hence I haven't seen it out again.

I've just spoken to the dealer about ordering the car and the tyres Land-Rover Switzerland are selling are Continentals with a snowflake / mountain / M+S rating. We had a long conversation about these as here we really need tyres that handle snow and ice really well. I don't know for certain but I think they're probably Continental WinterContacts.

EDIT: Confirmed, they were Continental WinterContacts
