My daughter, Elana who is only 23, (and her friend) have written a book, which has now just been published and available through Amazon in either paperback or kindle edition.
Here is the link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/have-stop-meeting...amp;sr=8-1 My daughter has recently been made redundant from work in a local garden centre near where we live and is feeling a bit down with life at present. Obviously I am very proud about her writing the book, and now with it being published I want to help her promote the book as much as possible. So if anyone wants to buy a late Christmas present or maybe birthday present etc for their mum/wife/girlfriend/or whoever please can you buy a copy. Any reviews left on Amazon after reading would be most welcome. Thank you to Martin for allowing me to post this here. Happy New Year to all. Thanks Darren |

@daz110 - firstly, congratulations to your daughter... was the redundancy the trigger that got her writing or is it a longer term plan?
Iād be interested in a bit more info on how she went about the process, both writing and the publication via Amazon... if possible??? |

Thanks to you all for your kind words.
Very proud, certainly not something I could do. Iām a bit if a dumb a**e. She has been writing it for quite awhile. Certainly before being made redundant. She has a couple of other books in the pipeline she is working on too. LiftedDisco, I will ask her about the writing process and publication via Amazon. Why do you ask ? LiftedDisco, my daughter just sent me the following: āI met my friend through writing online in the first place, so we work well creatively. We developed the story and the characters together and worked on the book for about a year, writing it together over google docs so we could both have access and work on it together while we were on Skype. Publishing on Amazon is pretty straightforward, but they do take 30% of the royalties for paperbacks and the printing price for the paperbacks is subtracted as well. This is why we make more money with an ebook purchase, so this would be more helpful. Purchasing the book via amazon has the advantage that we have sales to show and through the account one can leave a review. I formatted the pdf that we uploaded and made sure it was according to amazon's guidelines, which was easier said than done and we did the same with the cover art, which a friend made.ā |

Brilliant, many thanks...
Writing is one of those things that I feel I 'need' to do... the daunting part is starting! I also need to understand and/or make the transition from factual to fiction - most of my 'writing' to date has been for multi-million pound tenders so typically needs to be short and informative but I have also spent three years plus (some time ago...) writing a monthly column for a trade magazine. Working to a deadline seems to suit me - the column was only 750 words but I would normally do that in the last hour or so before copy date... not clever! I've also had various articles in a French lifestyle magazine, looking at marketing Gite rental properties... there's something very satisfying about getting paid for a few words. So - given they say that "most folks have a book in them, and that's where it should stay", my thoughts had been turning to whether I could write something more substantial... Here's to 2021 and a step into the unknown! |

Use all the selling tools that Amazon provides including the free promotions and countdown price.
New authors have difficulty promoting their books and on average sell only three books without promotions. The promotions work I have two books on Amazon that at first did not sell very well but with the help of Amazon advertising they are now selling. Good luck to your daughter and her book. That takes a lot of effort and determination so your daughter's perseverence commends our admiration. If it is a road your daughter wishes to follow I wish her well. Losing her job will no doubt have put a damper on things but she will probably utilise it to great effect in some future book of hers. For the moment all one can do is to wish her well as times are challenging enough without employment loss.
They say everyone has a book inside of them but how many of us actually get it out? That says it all. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai Last edited by spudfan on 31st Dec 2020 10:49pm. Edited 1 time in total |
