Window Tinting
Has anyone done this themselves before? I am looking to have my 90CSW rear windows tinted for security reasons. I have had quote of £250 to have it done by specialist but I wanted to know how easy it would be to do a DIY job using something like the stuff thats sold in Halfords, will I still get good results?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Had my D3 done by Midland Tints. Ben there was very knowledgable and helpful. Done as part of a group buy with the Disco3 forum. About the same price that you've been quoted. I had everything from the B post rearwards done. And I'm very happy with it.
Get it done properly. You won't regret it. And it'll save hours of you stressing over your work. Any crease you put in will annoy you forever and a day 110 D250 SE HT

We had the 110 done when we bought it - the dealers did it free with their won 3rd party people. Ask you dealer who they'd use and you might get a good deal.

Thumbs Up

Re: Window Tinting
Had my Puma 90 SW done by Pentagon, all the rear windows including the Alpine lights in a darker shade and the driver/passenger door windows done in a lighter shade so as not to contravene the 70 per cent light transmittance standard. Looks better to have the graduation in tint instead of the sudden dark to clear transition IMHO. I got the idea from seeing the dealer 90 SW demonstrator which they always have done this way and looked good.

All the glass (maybe not the rear door - not sure) is removed, covered, and then put back, which they said is very tricky. I chose them as they do all the LRs and Jaguars for the LR/Jag dealer just down the road. Cost was £450 I think.

So I'd say it's far from a DIY if you want it done properly. Trevor Wright

When I had y PUMA I looked at getting it tinted. The guy doing it lived in Kent and was an Ex LR techie. He said the only way to do it properly is to remove the glass and then cover. But that means drilling the rear side windows out, well the rivets anyway. So I gave it a miss in the end as time was against me. With the D3 all the glass that wasn't bonded was removed and covered. The windows that are bonded , the trim around the glass was removed and then covered. The final finish is excellent. From the B post back only took a couple of hours with 2 blokes doing it.

I watched my neighbour trying to tint his eurobox the other day. Didn't use any liquid to seat the film properly and just went straight to the sticking it on. Very funny to watch but in the end he gave up and a big roll of tint went into the bin Rolling with laughter . And all windows were left clear 110 D250 SE HT

Mine was a factory order and came with a lighter tint on the window - which i prefer as i cant stand tinted windows - certainly not the dark sort.

If there is one thing everyone seems to say - get a pro to do it. Mike

Has anyone got any good pics?

Unless you go for full on blacked out windows, I can't see how it would really add security (i.e. preventing people looking at your stuff). It is a very tempting idea but I reckon I'd need to see it in action, so to speak. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

For security reasons MSE its a must....i do a lot of fishing and dont want some scrote checking the gear in the back before putting the windows in.

Had a the D3 done for this reason profesionaly and more than pleased, makes the car look a bit better as well imho Thumbs Up

Had the D3 done with film professionally, idea was to keep prying eyes out and help reduce the sun from my young daughter.

Very pleased with it even two years later.

We had the choice of two tints and went for the lighter of the two, only regret now is I wish I had chosen the darker one.

Used a company that franchise, do a google search for penatgon window tinting. The bloke collected the car and then dropped it back next day.

Cost for the D3 was around £600 - £650 I think 2006 D3 Man TDV6 SE - Buckingham Blue

Had at least five vehicles done now using two company’s,
All realllly good and my 90 was done 18 years ago and it’s still as good as new

I did my workshop windows at home my self and they were appalling Rolling with laughter
Good enough to keep eyes out but it wasn’t a job I was proud of
