Removing slam panel on a tdci
Checking with you guys on how to remove the slam panel on a tdci? To be honest I have not tried, but it looks like it is fixed to the mudguards with studs. Do the mudguards need to be separated for the slam panel to come off, or the studs can come off? Are the studs installed in some captive nuts on the mudguards? Mine is with ac, so no crossbracing if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any advise.

There are studs fixed into the wings, I don't think they can be easily removed. To remove the slam panel I would think it would be possible to loosen enough bolts so the wing studs can be gently persuaded out of the way by pushing the wings aside. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Easiest way is to use the two-nut method to remove the studs while the slam panel is in place (with the hood supported by something else), and then replace them with bolts on reassembly

Two Nut method:

I didn't take pictures of exactly that work, but here you can see the studs and panel removed from when I changed my intercooler:

Thank you.

Yes DS, I understand the 2 nut method. Appreciate going the extra mile to attach a video.
Good to see that it is doable.

Thank you guys for your feedback. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Probably I will strap the bonnet to the spare wheel carrier on rear door. Less likely to accidentally knock the temporary bonnet prop out of place. Bonnet is quite heavy with serious consequences if it falls on my head. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
