Rear view mirror removal
The rear view mirror supporting arm feels like it has a metal clip it, the kind that cannot be put back if the mirror and arm are removed.

Can anyone confirm what the set up is? The mirror is virtually useless with a dog guard, a massive Bugaboo in the back and tinted windows. I fancy removing the mirror to make a bit more room for my iPad and mount.

Thanks KOTS but would it pop back on as easily afterwards? What's left once it's off - an unweildy bare clip?

speaking of which, can one get one of those fancy auto-dimming mirrors that will fit in the Defender? --

Isn't it frowned upon/illegal to not have an interior rear view mirror if you have a rear window in your vehicle? I'm sure it's an MOT failure at least. Mark

I think the requirement is for at least two mirrors - so one inside and one out, or two outside. If you think about it, there are plenty of vehicles in which an internal rear view mirror wouldn't serve any purpose. Darren

Done it. The top catch wasn't retracting - had to give it a shove with a screwdriver to free it up

The law nowadays requires a minimum of two rear view mirrors, one of which must be external and on the offside of the vehicle.

It doesn't matter where the other is, so it can be external on the left or internal.

There is no maximum, so provided that forward visibility isn't compromised, you could go for the "mod moped" look if you wanted.

I am not actually aware of any reason why your two mirrors couldn't both be external and on the offside.
