That is an awesome machine! Must be pretty much unstopable off road isn't it?
Is the roof/back of cab canvas? Seems strange for a vehicle designed for cold weather but must be for a reason? Does it come off? It is indeed pretty much unstoppable, full locking diffs all around, portal axles, 19 inch ground clearance, long travel suspension, 42 inch tyres. Not bad for 60 year old 'tech'.
The hood is PVC. This particular model is a 'Swiss' version so it has the sloping roof specifically to help the snow slide off. It's got a half decent heater and the radiator header tank is in the cab to act as an extra heat source It is nice to take the top off in the summer though! Throw in free road tax, mot exempt, £100 a year insurance and no depreciation and whats not to like.. Click image to enlarge |

You really must stop posting the photos camelman!!
Every time you put up a new one I start thinking about spending money on a classic Mog or something similar |

To be fair, since I bought mine 2 years ago, I haven't seen another 404 in good condition up for sale. There are some proper rot boxes out there. Its also worth being aware that most are advertised as mot exempt when they're not. Mot exempt only applies for pre 1960 mogs as they are over 3500kg gvw. The 40 year exemption only applies sub 3500kg. I've had mine downplated to 3500kg so it is now mot exempt and can also be driven by anyone on a normal car license. I still have a 900kg payload |

Agree, the few 404's I have spotted on fleebay or Milweb over the past year or so all look to be real restoration projects. If the bodywork is so rough on them it does make you wonder how well they were looked after mechanically over the years.
Been watching this one for a while out of curiosity and it is still for sale : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175151076983?ha...SwSrNZ9j29 It would make a really interesting show piece if the price was right, but in reality it it isn't practical as a usable classic for the occasional green lane trip or weekend run out. I had a SUMB many years ago which was the closest I got to an early Unimog. Not quite in the same league though. And as a two time Haflinger owner, I still crave for a 4x4 or 6x6 Pinzgauer. |

Hasnt that snow blower been for sale forever?
The odd 406 comes up but theyre much heavier and virtually always registered as agricultural. People think thats great but theres not much you can do with them legally if you're not using them for strict agricultural purposes. |

I quite like the idea of some of these older/simpler classics being converted.
I know people generally have concerns about originality etc, but for me it helps keep our classics useable in the modern world. I've got an old Series 3 (which is far from original), and if I could covert that to electric for a reasonable price, it would be a really good local runaround. But it won't be happening at tens of thousands of pounds! Still have huge levels of envy for your 'Mog.... irrespective of its powertrain. |
