It's a damn sight easier with the steering wheel out of the way, which is easy enough to do. Just remember to only slacken the large nut whilst you wrestle the wheel off, to prevent any wheel/nose interfaces

Or buy the steering wheel removing tool off the net for circa £10.

thanks all, my wheel is a bit off centre, so I may have a go at getting the steering wheel off

These only work if you have the type of wheel with the daft fake-airbag-growth-like-nodule thing in the middle, if you have the flat type there are no puller holes. |

If it is only a little off-centre you'll need to adjust the drag link. Moving the wheel a spline will probab;y make it even more off-centre the other way. If you do take the wheel off remember it doesn't need to be done up crazy-tight afterwards, and using some anti-seize or copper grease on the taper and splines will make it easier to remove next time. |
