I wouldn’t have thought it would be simple, as it controls throttle input and ABS modulation. Would be a very interesting project though 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I realise you have a specific need for it but the DSC is truly awful. I hate it so much. If you have any bumpy roads at all it keeps fighting you. There was a software update recently that made it better but it's still something I'd love to get rid of!

Hi Patrick0
I was 95% of the way to going to NZ a few years ago when they closed the visa category and left us high and dry, even if you manage to retro fit DSC to your Defender it won't be on the certificate of conformity for your year of car, this would automatically bar you from importing you Defender to NZ. The Kiwis are a pedantic bunch when it comes to these types of rules. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |

"From 2015 Model Year the 90 station wagon and 110 Station wagon will be fitted with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard. This will be packaged with ABS and therefore means that these Defender models will have ABS with Electronic Traction Control (ETC) and DSC as standard. ABS will also be available for the first time on 130 wheel base Defender models"

I have a solution for you: just press the button on the dash to deactivate. |

That's what I'm hoping. I know it would need a steering wheel sensor and associated wiring, but no idea if it needs a separate ECU module or if it's just switched on / reprogrammed in the ABS madule. |

There are basically 3 ABS/traction control systems on the Puma Defenders.
The 2007-2010 model year system is the Wabco ABS/TC carried over from the Td5, this is effectively a standalone system. For 2011MY (last year of the 2.4) a much more integrated Bosch ABS/TC system was introduced, this continued with the 2.2 up to and including the 2014 model year. The integration included commands to the engine ECU to reduce torque output from the engine, something the Wabco system cannot do. From 2015MY the system was upgraded to the Bosch DSC system with a steering angle sensor etc and the dash switch. If I understand it correctly you want to go from the Wabco system on a 2009 2.4 to the Bosch DSC from the late 2.2. This really isn't just a case of fitting a switch and changing the ECU software. You'd have to change the whole ABS system for the Bosch DSC type - new pipework, wiring, sensors, connectors etc. Realistically, that's the easy bit - physically bolting stuff into Defenders isn't the problem. The main issue is that you're then looking at CAN gateway hardware and a lot of software development and calibration to get the 2.4 ECU and the 2.2 Bosch DSC system operating together properly. Although anything is possible would any import authorities accept a 2009 with a retrofitted DSC system or would it have to be type approved with that system originally, so that no matter what you do it would never be accepted? It's possible, but not simple. Although I like a technical challenge I would have thought that selling the 2009 and buying a 2015/16 with DSC would be the way to do it - unless you can justify the cost (or the cost is irrelevant) AND you know that it would be accepted upon import. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Martin,
Thanks for info... looks like ive hijacked the original posters thread. Are you able to point me in the direction of any technical documentation? Or perhaps where I can find out the part numbers of the two Bosch system ECUs (Looking at implementing this on a 2012... so would like to compare pin outs etc to see how much of a headache it would be etc) Thanks once again for the info already supplied. |

Look up dgardel's posts here, he has posted links to a load of the Defender tech docs - wiring diagrams etc. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
