Rear cross member is shot on both sides where expected, a coup,e of good taps with the handle end of a heavy screwdriver & I reckon you get a whole on the nearside at least, offside looks to already have a small patch on it which I know from experience means there is a lot more rust on the inside - getting that replaced properly with a quality part won't be cheap & definitely a good bargaining point. Otherwise from the pics, looks pretty original although the drivers side paint does look a lot shinier/newer than the rest. Ali worm visible on nearside rear panel above number plate, not unexpected & undoubtedly won't be the only place if you look properly. Would still suggest checking it out in more detail but 'on paper' looks like it could be a reasonable motor worth looking into in more detail. |

^^^ I bet it isn't... aircon was a UK option & you can buy stick on ZA flags easily enough. A ZA spec car would have a kph speedo, this one has mph on it but I guess it could have been changed. Also thought ZA cars had BMW 2.8 diesels not Td5s?
As for rust free, check out the rear cross member, lower tub mounts & rear door - plenty of signs of corrosion in all of these! Click image to enlarge |

I'm in Verwood so not far from the garage. A lot of good advice given by all, thank you. Think I'll need to take one of you along to have a look over any potential purchase as the knowledge here is far greater than mine! |

See if you can get a photo of the VIN number - there should be a plate in the bottom corner of the windscreen on the passenger side & another on the pedal box on the drivers side under the bonnet. Can then check out the original build spec & use to get full information from an HPI check - costs £20 from memory & well worth doing.

Best you go & have a look at that DCPU for me based on information available it's a no brainer - same advice applies re getting the VIN number & running an HPI check as well as putting it into vindcoderz website.
Only thing I would caution, having owned a Td5 DCPU, is that compared to my 90 SW I found the ride pretty harsh. I believe this is because they can carry 1000kg in the pick-up bed so have springs to cope. I also believe that it is possible to change the rear springs to softer ones (SW spec) to sort this out - I'm sure others will confirm one way or the other. |
