Torque settings for front axle
hello , can some one point me in the right direction?

I have a land rover workshop manual for the 1999 to 2006MY defender td5. I can find no section related to swivel ball preload adjustment or torque figures related to the suspension components I am missing out something?

Sad

thank you. Bow down

I am quite Censored off for not finding them on the actual td5 book i bought. it is over 1.5inches thick and cannot find them/reference to them. Sad the bearings are not taper on top as per 300 but i searched a lot online and was moving on with the 78nm for top pin and 82nm for caliper.

just quickly having a look at the state of the swivel bearings . seems like a full strip. Rolling with laughter

i got even more confused since upon some searches online many threads on different boards stated that the bolts cannot take the 78nm Sad

Manuals during the Td5 era were very poor, with multiple version produced and just about none was complete (for example it is really hard finding the P38 diff covered in a Defender manual).

Be a little careful with the swivel pin torque figures. I seem to recall that there were some version of the manual which did specify ridiculously high torque figures for relatively small fasteners om the swivel pins, the result IIRC of a change of stud size.

hello,

Yes that is what upset me yesterday Sad I foolishly bought the manual at 50€ when i got her in the hope of being able to handle repairs properly and alone. My luck.

I managed to find a list of tdci figures on the lrworkshop site. I am not into advertising stuff so pls if it is offensive remove. it has figures for a lot of components which i think are very similar

https://www.lrworkshop.com/torque-specific...ender-2007

I tried torqueing up to the figures show on the 300tdi manual shared. I will hopefully change the bolts when it comes to give them a good rebuild. Proper 12.9 or 10.9 bolts sourced locally.

Regards.

You don't have to buy manuals.

Google for Rave Land Rover and you should find some downloads. If not send me a pm. Roel

Thanks,

I did find workshop manuals and part manuals for my series three (downloadable). I tried search a bit about td5s and got no great response. i used allbrits for some time but they changed something and it got messed up. i

In respons to my earlier compliants! i had a peaceful look at the manual and realised that the 300tdi supplements include most missing parts such as swivels etc. the pages scanned and posted up earlier.

I Do like to rely on some proper info and insights - WSM and forums alike but i was a bit hasty at buying the td5Manual since the engine is a tad more modern compared to the 2.25d i am used to.

Have a good day.
