The trend in the videos I've seen online supports the general consensus here -- Defenders with lift rods leave me wondering "Huh. I thought it would have done better." after watching the videos of off-road performance.

Videos of Defenders without lift rods leave me thinking "How the heck did it do that so easily?".

You could look at this as an alternative?


With the Electronic Handling and Offroad Kit, you can take advantage of the not fully exploited possibilities of a height-adjustable air suspension. The New Defender can thus be lowered by 28 mm on the road and raised by an additional 30 mm off-road.

However you’re making it higher, you will lose some travel across the axle (once the ride height is set, the system is closed across each axle, so there’s a larger volume of air to distribute between the two springs, assuming the crossover is open) - point is, how much difference does that actually make? I remember reading an LR engineer, pre-launch, talking about fitting larger diameter tyres with a 1” lift - so presumably there’s a limited travel/geometry change with smaller height adjustments.

It was a Matzker D3 we competed against back in the day (see my previous post) My sons standard Defenders and my standard D3 made the course the Matzker D3 had to be winched through to clear the course. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Nothing new here. Same tech has been used since the Disco3.

It's not really "tricking" it is just an alternative manual calibration of the height sensors.

I would say, if you watch vids of the new Defender off road, especially ones in America. They all look like they bob up and down. And when the suspension is raised up, they have very poor flex. I know the increased ride height/breakover angles can be beneficial. But ultimately I think they probably perform worse off road.
