Mine runs on pink. You need to match it to whatever is in there at the moment, what colour is yours running at mo?

Apparently, colour is not a reliable indicator of the type of coolant in your system.

OK, so I guess it is back to the hand book definition: " Use an ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing no methanol) with non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors suitable for aluminium engines....."

If you can afford, drain radiator and block, flush with clean water and then fill with correct spec. That should give you complete peace of mind Defender 90XS SW

I use to have the pink stuff and was told it was no good for my engine (300 Tdi ) it had not been in for to long, so the system was flushed out and now i have a very dark green/blue stuff, right for my engine 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I recently had the same dilemma, as has been said colour is not a definite indicator of type. As far as I could work out it is a choice of OAT based or Non-OAT based. The main difference being an OAT based coolant will last longer, typically 4 years before needing changing, whereas a Non-OAT based coolant needs changing every 2 years and was used in older engines.
As I understood it there was or is a school of thought that OAT based was not ideal on older engines due to issues with some seals. To be honest I never really could find a definitive answer so I have opted for the Non-OAT based solution and change it every 2 years. Its not a big job and I figure giving the coolant system a good old clean every couple of years is no bad thing anyway. In the end I chose this; Bluecol Antifreeze 2 Year 5l - BLA005. Not a very scientific approach I am afraid but a pragmatic one for me |

Same for me - so many opinions and information out there, it had pink, I went with what the manual said - happy to keep an eye on it and do it again. Think it was comma G40?

Ethylene glycol is the stuff. Usually blue but not always.

My ROW spec 2006 300Tdi came with the pink OAT stuff from the factory (as did all the others) so that's wrong - they are quite happy with either just don't mix the two! TDI uses the regular blue stuff as above
td5 oat red/pink coolant then you have purple and green for other makes like volvo...go figure. as long as you dont mix the different types you will be fine. just keep the strength correct. |

The issue with OAT coolants is when you may have upgraded to Silicone hoses, the Organic compounds breakdown the silicone over time and they WILL eventually fail. Only IAT (Blue) coolant is safe for use with the 300Tdi engine fitted with upgraded hoses. |

Yes that is why i changed from pink to blue as it started to delaminate the silicone hose from the inside out 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
