Rodent in car
Hi has anyone had any experience of mice under the bonnet as we have discovered this morning that one of the cars has got or had mice under the bonnet as Barney our Black Lab went absolutely ballistic this morning trying to get in by the grill and around the wheel arches, i popped the bonnet and there are some chewed seeds on the air filter cover also part of the insulation around the front wings are very slightly chewed, the problem being this car is not used very often but i can see a potentially huge problem if they start on the wiring as everything is electric on it, i had a quick look in the car and there isnt the characteristic smell of nesting mice, however there was an empty food sack in the rear footwell Shocked Rolling Eyes Whistle (swmbo) any advice would be appreciated please Thumbs Up cheers Paul

A humane trap is a good course of action as you can relocate them without harm, but be careful as I have known them to do many hundreds of pounds of damage to wiring etc. over a quite short period of time .
Personally, I use a high frequency deterrent on our classics which I plug in to a mains outlet , but my usual source seems to have gone out of business . Big Cry 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

I had mice nesting on top of the diesel tank on my 2012 Puma. They chewed through the vent pipe where it exits the tank and as it is moulded into the tank the whole thing (tank) had to be replaced. Expensive mice!

I now use high freq deterrents and hope they work. I'll know they don't work if tank starts leaking again!

Hi Thanks for the quick responses,we do use the plug in high frequency ones in the barn and loft and they do work as there are 4 other vehicles in the barn and dont have issues with any of them and they are used less than the one in question however there is no room for this car in there, ive never seen Barney like he was this morning with any of the cars so im guessing they've only just got in there, Thumbs Up cheers Paul

I found a nest in my rear door card after I purchased mine. It had taken bits of corn, chewed up receipts and grass in there and made a little nest.

We use a small amount of chocolate in our humane traps. Works every time.

+ 1 for chocolate and a humane trap.

We had issues under a shed, they had a preference for mars bars. Never failed to work. Thumbs Up 2010 XS USW

I just put a couple of the poison hairs down in the garage. Seems to keep the numbers down. I’ve tried humane traps but no joy.

Haha rat fans Laughing I’ve run the car up this afternoon cleaned the engine bay and parked it in a windy area hopefully that will shift them, there’s definitely no sign of them inside the car and I've removed the feed sack Rolling Eyes as I was reversing it around Tash was in front of the car and she said it smelt of mouse nests 😫 Rolling Eyes Whistle Thumbs Up cheers Paul
