The 050 one is for TD5 era vehicles whilst the 290 one is for post '07 vehicles. I wouldn't have imagined that there would have been that much difference to be honest, but it does appear that you've fitted the wrong ones. Darren

Good shout, not sure but will have a look.
I'm interested to see if the sizes and travel are the same or similar but will probably end up changing them to put my mind at rest Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |

Due to the fact that the earlier unit comes compressed and stays compressed, can we assume this is oil?
The later ones come extended and, I assume like the originals, extend themselves when not under compression. Does this mean they are gas? Still can't find any comparative specs although the later ones come with 3 nuts instead of two which is interesting! All of them have oil. Some have std P air and others pressurised N (plus some air). Puma 110" SW

Yes that's correct, I should have been more clear
In that case I will change them as the addition of gas is a positive Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |

TBH I cannot understand how Defenders came out of the factory with "std oil shocks" for decades and suddenly, gas charged dampers is the way to go. Even today, the best dampers for heavily loaded Defenders are Koni Raid without N pressure. Puma 110" SW

I have Koni HT adjustable shocks on the rear. I always thought they were gas filled but you've got me thinking now... Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Hi all, new shocks have arrived.
They came with 3 nuts each, 1 large shouldered nut and 2 standard nuts, which has confused me slightly. Any ideas why? Thanks Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |
