110 Springs and Shocks - A little help...
Hi all! Very Happy

Due to corroding springs and turrets, yesterday I changed the springs, shocks, turrets and seats on my 2010 110 Defender Utility.

I fitted yellow yellow and white white springs as per my research, but to my surprise found both driver and passenger side springs were white white. Not sure if they just ran out of yellow springs one day? Whistle

Anyway, my main question is based on the shock absorbers as I think I've fitted the wrong ones. Whilst the new ones seemed to be the same diameter and of course the same fittings as the old ones, they were a little softer. To be honest, this suited me as I do find the front end a little 'hard' compared to the back which are shod with Koni adjustable shocks (adjusted right out for comfort).

However it niggled me and last night I did my research again and realised I'd written down the wrong part number. I was hoping someone here could verify the difference between the two as this is bugging me now and I think I should change them. Part numbers are:

RSC100050 (what I fitted)
RSC500290 (what I should have fitted)

The 050 one is for TD5 era vehicles whilst the 290 one is for post '07 vehicles. I wouldn't have imagined that there would have been that much difference to be honest, but it does appear that you've fitted the wrong ones. Darren

Due to the fact that the earlier unit comes compressed and stays compressed, can we assume this is oil?

The later ones come extended and, I assume like the originals, extend themselves when not under compression. Does this mean they are gas?

Still can't find any comparative specs although the later ones come with 3 nuts instead of two which is interesting! Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Chile 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Chawton White
All of them have oil. Some have std P air and others pressurised N (plus some air). Puma 110" SW

TBH I cannot understand how Defenders came out of the factory with "std oil shocks" for decades and suddenly, gas charged dampers is the way to go. Even today, the best dampers for heavily loaded Defenders are Koni Raid without N pressure. Puma 110" SW

Hi all, new shocks have arrived.

They came with 3 nuts each, 1 large shouldered nut and 2 standard nuts, which has confused me slightly. Any ideas why?
