Accessories
Land Rover seem to be going all out with the accessories for the new Defender with a healthy LR premium to the price.

That being said I am planning on fitting a few to mine including:

- Raised air intake
- Classic mud flaps
- Wheel arch protection

I think 3rd parties will struggle to provide bulbars that don't interfere with the camera systems so I'm also considering the front expedition protection system but that also seems very overpriced for what it is.

Would welcome input from some of the forum members as to which accessories you think are worth getting, which you should avoid and which are likely to have better 3rd party alternatives? I will regularly be using my Defender for overloading in Africa so the focus is on practical application rather than aesthetics.

I guess it's difficult to say as there is very little 3rd party stuff out there yet. Good luck though!

I suppose whilst new would genuine be better to maintain warranty? James

End of June / beginning of July. Very excited!

Btw agree with you on the warranty concerns which is why I will probably bite the bullet and pay the LR premium.

Very sadly not Crying or Very sad

I will miss it a lot - particularly when overlanding, but I just couldn't justify the cost of keeping it.

Looking to take mine on a tour (circuit of OZ), so a combination of touring/overlanding in to some of the nether regions and
also some short 4x4 technical trips, looking at 12-18 months to complete i reckon. Like yourself i have added

RAI, Mud Flaps, Wheel Arch Protection, Tow Pack (you get TR2 and a few other things), e-diff, roof rails. I am likely to go
aftermarket for the roof rack.. https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/a...-roof-rack
Not sure about whether to order the ladder or not, just so my wife can reach the rack Laughing she is only 5 ft..

Fixed side steps, it looks like the mounting bars may afford some sill protection against rocks..so the stealer tells me,
but i am still researching

a few of us in OZ on the book of faces new defenders group are investigating what ARB is likely to release in terms of
front protection / winch bars. most likely a far cheaper option than the LR option, just may have to wait a while for them
to work it out..

Cheers

I seem to recall that McGovern or someone else in LR said explicitly that it was an intent of LR to monopolise completely the accessories market for the new Defender, and put the aftermarket suppliers out of business. If this is still an intent, it will be interesting to what happens with the aftermarket sector.

You may have to buy genuine accessories!

Yeah I will also be going with the FR roof rack. I've been trying to get some details from them about it, like should I get the factory fitted rails or not and whether it will fit with the LR ladder installed.

The winch is something I'm still researching. I travel solo quite a bit so I like having it for peace of mind - although in 5 years of overloading I have yet to ever use it! LR's price for the winch is particularly extortionate!

Can you get a Land Rover technician sitting in one of the rear seats permanently? Very Happy

I am sure if ARB or OL want to launch accessories they will find a way, I very rarely listen to McGoverns

There’s a few already with aftermarket tuners such as Kahn Design and Sterling, who ever they are. I would imagine the aftermarket off road accessories will start to appear at some point.

I'm sure that the aftermarket guys will find a way, and if it upsets McGovern then, to my mind, that is a distinct bonus!

I was told yesterday that Urban’s franchisee in Edinburgh has “some” already in their work shops - no idea if “some” is just one or several........ Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!
