Just got the Defender back from it's fifth service at the JLR dealer.
The OSH for the first time states "Electronic Vehicle Health Check (eVHC)" At first I thought "well, there isn't much electronic to be checked" ![]() ![]() But then, it's not "vehicle electronics check" and I saw this https://www.landrover.com/ownership/health-check.html "As part of our supreme level of service, ..." ![]() ![]() and thought "Is that what you get if marketing dept has too much time to spare?" ![]() I mean, the items listed are part of regular maintenance anyway. And if all that just "lasts 15 minutes", then why did I pay 230£ for 2,2 hrs labour for checks and engine oil change? |

VHC, electronic or otherwise is pretty well industry and Europe-wide standard.
Good old European legislation puts a reliance on the workshop to visually inspect and document that inspection any vehicle that passes through the workshop for any work. It should be for any reason : tyres, service to a screen wash top up. In reality if your car has been through the same workshop during the past 6 months they’ll skip it. A scheduled service may not overtly check key safety related items. The idea is to protect the customer and ensure that they are not unknowingly Driving an unsafe car - hence the red, amber, green coding. Naturally the industry has turned this into a sales opportunity, which is good business sense. I see it as a good thing. If a close family member went to have any work done, let’s say a new headlight bulb fitted, at a dealer and it has been through their workshop and a glaring issue wasn’t picked up, you’d be Rightly ![]() Which is why I think eVHC is a good thing. Never paid for a service, never will. There once was a time when people knew their cars, knew their houses, their gardens etc etc - I long for that life, the good life 😂. I’ll never mug myself off, charge extra, or turn a blind eye to mine and family’s safety! Evidently I have too much time and not enough money to compete with you guys haha.
