England 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Zermatt Silver
Fridge location
Up until now my Engel 40 litre has been on the Engel mounting plate (the static grey one), bolted to the top of a MSS store drawer in the load bay of my 110. We conveniently access the fridge through the side window, beneath the shelter of the awning.

My new conundrum is this. We have a new UXS due in a few weeks (that's guesswork, the dealer is pretty useless), and I wanted to remove the nearside second-row seat (the 40 of the 60-40) and have the fridge mounted in it's place, as near as damn it, on something fabricated by my local inde. Has anyone done anything similar or does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to 'cut' the new car (ie that rules out the piece that MPS do to facilitate the lowering of the fridge in that position by changing the seatbox).

I have considered just folding the seat up and having my man make a floor standing/bolted 'shelf' that the mounting plate could in turn be bolted to. The fridge could then butt up to the back of the folded seat. That would mean leaning in to the right slightly through the side door to get to the fridge- not in itself a problem and probably better than our past solution.

I can't find anything similar on any thread anywhere on t'internet.

Anyone?

Cheers,

Ade

yeah seen that...

might be out of my budget though, that sure looks expensive though, all that runner stuff might mean $$

i'm up for the 'less is more approach' and a static fixed platform for the fridge to sit on.

i'm happy to 'slum it' and reach in for a cool beer... Very Happy

Be surprised if it was hugely expensive........HD draw runners and some suitable brackets where the seats were. Won't be as cheap though as taking the seat out and bolting it directly to the floor!

deffo get that...

but it (an engel mt45 nose to tail) won't bolt directly to the floor , without the MPS 'chop shop' bracket.

it's the lead on the false floor that i think we are seeking, i think.

a shelf on the seat base would deffo make the fridge to high for the lid to open, Very Happy and certainly to high for me to peek into...

In our red 110 we have an engel mounted transversely on a level with the seat boxes. It sits above a 70 litre water tank on the Engel base plate. It is also ratchet strapped in as well. With the Engel fridge when opening it you have to be careful that the lid does not 'walk' off the hinges. Apparently there is a conversion kit available to stop that now.

Black 110 the 60% rear seat comes out. (Blooming heavy!) The ARB fridge sits longitudinally in the back on a wooden base and is accessed from the front seats. It is ratchet strapped in. Have removed various seat bolts and bolted down some lightweight lashing eyes.

Personally we prefer the ARB fridge over the Engel fridge

Is the fridge mount going to be permanent?
Do you need the 40 split 2nd row seat? If not remove the seat make a platform for the fridge.

Yellow is a platform, pink is the fridge blue is a hand cubby box under the fridge ideal for ropes straps etc

my engel 45 is mounted where you describe. i just removed the 40% seat, and then made a flat platform for it. it picks up on the rear seat bar thing and then has two feet at the front dropping into the footwell. held in place with a ratchet strap through the fridge handles to the passenger seat frame on the front and the load guard on the rear. Cheers

Mine is very similar to JST, or his to mine Very Happy

Seat out, then a ply floor cut to shape, on top, with supports underneath, into the foot well, then the 45 ratchet straped to the fog/load guard,,, no

At the moment I have the fridge lock base thingy Question for my engel 40 litre permanently fitted transversely under the 60% seat with the edge of the base directly behind where the seat base rear bracket would sit. This means I can just roll the seat forward and clip the ridge in to place or remove the seat all together (as it now can't be used and just takes up space!) It's a TD5 so the seat frame is a bit different.

I like the board idea on the 40% side, but the only one like that I have seen in practice means the passenger seat has to be moved forward leading to a (very) cramped seating position. If there is a way round this, I'd be very interested....

Have also considered the MPS cutting the floor option but understand the floor brackets are no longer available?

I also like the fridge slide idea. Does the door stay have to be modified/removed to enable the fridge to come all the way out, or does it open wide enough any way?
