Do you think Gerry is out of shot with the AK47. One wrong word and he pulls the trigger.
I've never heard so much rubbish in my life. This is not a commercial vehicle. Period. Another vanity product.

And seeing the very brief shot with the rear door open, I'll eat my hat if you could even get a Euro pallet in the back. The door doesn't look to swing open far enough.

I'm guessing Gerry was laughing, if you watched film of them side by side, there's no doubt who you would pick to do the main presenting. It's a shame and a simple fix, but for now Nick should stay in the workshop.

Best detail I could grab on the loadspace:

Interesting to read the Grenadier make specific reference to getting a Euro spec pallet in the back of theirs. So that's 1200mm x 800mm.

"Very much a niche vehicle, I'd think"

The SWB actually ticks some of my boxes! I rarely have more than one passenger, now only tow light trailers, but I do need a bit of space for the fenders, anchors and other paraphernalia I lug to and from the boat. Now if the price were right...*

Peter

*Let's face it though, rather than a basic coil-springed no-frills truck, JLR prefer to load their offerings with gizmos and option packs and pitch the price accordingly

Is this really the market JLR is targeting?

I've been doing the sums for a D90 commercial....

Base Defender 90, D200 £38,100 inc VAT, EX VAT approx £32,000
Defender 90 HardTop ~ £35,000 + VAT

Therefore the HardTop carries a premium of £3000 above base EX VAT D90. That's a hefty premium for N1 tax classification and no rear seats. I don't recall the old station wagon costing less than than a hardtop.

Any ideas why? Paul

I would say £3k more than the 90, as the 110 HT has coils as standard. Whereas the 110 station wagon commands £5k over the 90 but has air as standard which is about a £2k option on the 90. So between £3-5k depending on suspension option.

If that all makes sense Laughing

I'm happy with that, I priced up a 110 s with the few options I wanted and it came to £55K incl VAT. So this will be much more palatable for the accountant. As long as I can have the glass roof, and the other few options I wanted 110 D250 SE HT

I don’t understand LR’s thinking as to why they offer the 90 with only a fabric roof, only the 90X gets the panoramic glass roof. I’m sure that with a fabric roof the insurance companies will really load the premiums as it makes it so vulnerable to a knife attack. Also unless the have a job lot from Saab or Audi it’s not going to do all the fancy electronics much good when the damp starts to get in on cold winter days. The 110’s glass roof has a clever automatic sun shade - park up, close the glass roof if it’s open but leave the blind open and next time you return to the car the blind has closed,. Press the start button and the blind automatically re-opens. The opening section of glass though is quite small but there isn’t enough wind flutter in the cabin to spoil your hairdo with it open and no buffeting/ drumming in the cabin even at motorway speed Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

As J77 advised, there is a link for the JLR press release with a starting price and I used the configurator to get the base price for an entry D90 SW - £38,100 inc VAT, you then get a further £2,2K of new vehicle tax to complete the deal just over £40K.

N1 classification for a VAT registered business is worth having, you can claim the VAT and reduce your BIK if you also use the vehicle privately. What I don't get is why a base HARDTOP would be pitched almost 10% more expensive than a SW.

IMO, of all the New Defender models, the D90 HardTop in retro colours and steel wheels looks the pick of the bunch. Paul

I’ve seen the 90 Hard Top in the flesh and I’d take it in a heartbeat but as I don’t need it for business it makes it more expensive than the Base model.
