Rear brake disk shot and new stub axle??
So I wanted to just change my rear pads to compliment my new LOF powespec front callipers, disks and pads.

It soon became apparent that I needed more bits!

Look at the state on this disk! The other side wasn’t as bad

I’m sure it was a Bearmach disk fitted 2 years ago with probably about 6k miles traveled.
So a new order to Luke at LOF for a set of new discs and a pair of callipers because the pistons are shot.

While all the tools were out I stripped down the both rear assembly’s ready for the new to arrive and noticed one of the stub axles had some marks, do these marks suggest a new stub axle is required? Not sure what constitutes a new one is needed?

That’s will clean up with a bit of emery cloth, it only looks like fretting corrosion.

Cheers

Stub look workable where bearings sit, are there grooves where the seal goes on the shoulder or just shiny? Cheers

It’s just shiny, should the bearing fit tightly on the stub and not spin? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

The inner race shouldn't turn. The Mark's you have are from the previous one rotating or the race getting hot and the heat being transmitted through the inner race to the stub.

If it's not marked the stub or will be fine, it doesn't have to be cleaned off to function either. I would clean it off though. Cheers

As a rule of thumb, if you can feel damage on the stub axle with your eyes shut replace it, if it is purely visual it should be ok, unless there is severe "blueing" indicating heat damage.

The inner races should slide smoothly on the stub with zero play or movement if waggled. Usually it is wear on the surface upon which the oil seal runs which determines the need for a new stub, in Series days when proper engineering still ruled the day these rings were renewable (and the wheel bearings were a lot bigger!) but in this era of "value engineering" the stub axle is one-piece and it's no longer possible just to do this.
