Nicely done Swine
My work was ( had to retire last year ) designig and building restaurants, nightlcubs, pubs, bars, tea shops and one of my last jobs, a strip club! ( the tales from that job are legendary ) I usually make all the furniture if it's bespoke stuff and i have the time, but it's quite industrial as it's needed to withstand drunk people dancing on it or throwing it about i did a video a few years ago of a small tea room/cocktail bar in Brixham i designed and built which used to be a chip shop and a museum at one point. I made the mirrors, seating, bar, toilet block but i had a firm come in from London to copper the bar top ( roofing company ). video's a timelapse and here if you're interested; https://vimeo.com/164020407 Last edited by Badger110 on 21st Apr 2020 10:28pm. Rosco, I slice on a bandsaw to about 1/8th inch seasoned branches of selected woods at an angle of approx 45 degrees, which gives that slightly off centre heartwood look. These are then sanded flat on one , squared off to fit the surface of the job, book matched to give a mirror effect of the grains and then glued to the surface to be veneered. After 24 hours I then start to sand the surfaces flat by hand and this can take about 6 hours per side of the job. Finishing is by using button polish.
Pity you are so far away or after lockdown you could have come round to try it yourself. I suspect that as I am pushing 80 that lockdown may be a long time for me 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

Some years ago, we had a large deck built in our garden that generated a huge amount of off-cuts. I couldn't stand the thought of throwing them away and so built some garden tables with them. This one and two others in the same style but about 2ft square:
Click image to enlarge They're incredibly heavy, so I fitted wheels to one end so that they can be moved around like a wheelbarrow. They're due for a refresh this year and I plan to replace the tops and clad them with zinc sheet (if we're ever allowed back into Wickes ). That looks great (as do the rest of your creations) but I suspect is very unforgiving when you stub your toe on it Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Some great pieces there! I too like steel and timber! What do you use to finish your mild steel? Looks great > 110 XS Double Cab |

Hank
Thanks, if I want to keep the steel look I have found clear coat lacquer works well. I tried waxes and oils but they never seem to last and always remain a little greasy which isn’t ideal for furniture. If it’s to be painted I just use galv spray on the welds, undercoat and spay it generally. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE RR MY23 HSE PHEV D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold D4 MY12 HSE - Gone D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten |
