Something unusual...
We had some hill fires recently that burnt all the heather from the hills. However around the immediate area of a WW2 crashed aircraft site the heather did not burn. Just one of those things...

The above is where they came in.They were much too low in bad weather and were in the wrong place. Thought they were still over water when they hit the hill side.

The above shows how low they were.

Part of the surrounding area.

The above shows the only green and heather on the hillside is at the crash site.

Thumbs Up

A Wellington hit some large, mature trees which were on top of the few bits of higher ground not too far away from here. Pieces of the aircraft including a large piece of tailplane remained embedded in one of the trees until the tree came down in I think the late '70's. It's now in a local museum and still has some of the fabric covering and paint intact. Steve.

Just kayaked past a major D Day Landing site on the river Fal - a HUGE number of troops gathered and left under the cover of the trees then crossed the Channel. What a grim thing to have to do.

Great pics Spud - sad though. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
