Defender lights out....it’s not the switch!
Hi guys, hope you’re all well not feeling too couped up.

So, towing my trailer the other day, I could smell burning when I turned the ignition off. I only realised my lights were out as I was driving home...just made it back before dark ..phew! So took the light switch out fully expecting it to be shot, it’s not, it’s fine. The connection block is a little scorched round the live cable, but the power is there so that’s fine too. The side lights and dash lights work, it’s just the headlights/beam that’s out. So with the switch removed, I connected the live directly onto the headlight blue cable...nothing, normally the lights would have come on so the problem is further down the line.
Any ideas, thoughts or advice regarding where the vulnerable points are in this circuit would be really really appreciated.
If I manage to fix it I’ll might upgrade to more powerful bulbs, what mods do I need to do to stop this think keep playing up ?
I appreciate I could go for LED’s, but I rather like the heat halogen produces in case it snows....which it very rarely does in the southeast
Cheers guys
James

Have you checked all the fuses for the headlights.? Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

With everything connected as normal, and with the ignition on, measure the supply voltage at the headlight connector, then turn the switch on and measure again. I have/had a fault where one of the connections had gone so high impedance that it showed 12V with no load and instantly collapsed under any load!
