Found some time between other jobs today and air line parts turned up.

Webasto fuel pick is in, I purchased from ebay, cut the pickup to length to finish about 1" above the bottom of the tank. Webasto pump installed. I used the 300tdi air filter rubber mounts to isolate it off the chassis.

Front winch bumper is on. It's a non air con one on an air con vehicle. The grill was already cut so I just cut out a little more to get it to fit. Dont want to make any of the angles worse than they already are on a 130!

I am hoping to get rear tub back on tomorrow. Cheers

I assume the pickup is for installation in the tank?

I can't claim credit for this idea (that goes to John / FridgeFreezer on LR4x4) but he had a neat solution. A swirl pot installed in the return line to the tank. Can't remember what size it was (only a litre or two if I remember correctly) but sufficient to run the heater at full blast for 24h. The return fed in at the top and the return to the tank was tapped off from the top but the heater tapped into the bottom.

The elegance came in that you didn't have seperate tanks, you didn't have to faff with the vehicles tank, and you couldn't run the vehicle tank dry.

Simply by running / driving the vehicle it would automatically top up the swirl pot from the main tank.

I really liked the simplicity of the idea and all the benefits it gave. The tank simply bolted to the inside of the chassis leg and was tucked up out of the way. Admittedly on his 4.6ed 129 ambulance so a fair bit of space. Think he did the same on the portaled 109.

Yep saw that on lr4x4, a neat idea. The previous 4 webasto units I have fitted the same as this one without any issues, so hopefully it will all be ok! Cheers

Mine were much the same after 8 years and 28K miles - plating quality & longevity leaves a lot to be desired on newer Defenders. My old '84 90 was still on its originals after 22 years and 180K miles and were like new.

Went with stainless pistons from Zeus with LR seals.

did the same on the front. Probably going to do the rears as well. Hopefully those will stay in a better shape on the long term.

Spent a bit of time replacing the sticking Albright on my tds this morning. Its Over 10 years old so about time for some maintenance!

Refitted the rear tub. Managed to close the gap between the tub and the cab. It was around 26 to 30mm it's now closer to 10mm.

Also trial fitted the swing away spare wheel carrier. Picked it up off ebay as a shop soiled item. Will see how we go with it for now. Does make it all even longer!

Can you put some more pictures up of the bottom mount for the wheel carrier? Also are you strengthening the top corner? 1997 110 Hi-Cap Keswick Green

Will do. Bottom is weight bearing, fitted with 3 vertical m8s and 2 horizontal, it replaces the grab handle drivers side and uses the same three mounts as that plus 2 extra.

Top, no I dont think so it's just a locator. Ali there is about 10mm thick. Cheers

Thanks, have looked at that a few times and have made a rear hoop for the hood with built in strengthening plate, it is this but was worried about it being cast. Look forward to seeing the lower mounting point pictures. 👍 1997 110 Hi-Cap Keswick Green

Also did a few electrical jobs today. amazing how the time disappears when on electrics!

wired in the front winch for incab control off an electric window switch.

wired in USB charger for phone and USB socket plus 12v feed to behind dash for perm on (charging points)

Also wired in the behind dash wiring for the air compressor.

found out the driver heated seat problem was the rear elements had failed so replaced them and now back and working. just what i need in this weather! Cheers
