Propshaft question
Replaced the front, manual says sliding parts should be at the front near the axle...but my old one had the sliding part near the transfer box. I have followed the manual, any thoughts or pearls of wisdom. 1990 200tdi conversion 90

That looks like a Series III parts book diagram.

Reality is it doesn't really matter. I've always put the slip joint at the transfer box end but it makes no difference.

Surely as the axles are lower than the T box then the joint should face towards the axle.
Then any water and debris will tend to head downwards and away from the joint.

This is one of the reasons why the rearmost UJ often fails, which is something you canโ€™t do anything about as being low.
At the rear and the lowest point it attracts the most water ingress etc and is the most common to fail.
The front axle UJ avoids it much more because spray and water is often kicked up more to the rear.

So in effect, the Seanโ€™s IIRC should face each axle away from the T box. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Sliding joint to the transfer box front and rear is what I've always done. I do it that way round on the front to prevent crap being forced into the sliding joint as it's not particularly well sealed.
