Damper rubber mounts, and prop UJ’s would be my first check. Yes you had new UJ’s before, but they can fail.

Will definitely give the UJs a thorough check.
The bushes were replaced as they came in the OME kit. However, I will check them for wear later today. check for perishing where that cap on the rear axle located the bush for the shock. they can cause premature bush damage or people do the shocks up so tight the bush is compressed within the cup and its doing nothing.
if you do any off roading i would remove the cup. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

OK, I’ve been out and had a look at everything. The prop UJs have zero play in them. The shock bushes are as you’d expect for their age - still fine. The metal cups for the bushes are more like large washers with the OME kit, interestingly.
I’m using the 90 this weekend so I’ll try and replicate the noise and see if I can narrow it down further. Did you take the props off to check the UJs ?

No I didn’t. But I’ve given them a good push/pull and watched them whilst rocking the vehicle. Charlie

You still won't know what the UJ's condition is like with them in situ.
I found this too, and MOT stations missed it and so did servicing because the prop want taken off to check. This caused other issues elsewhere and made it more expensive and longer lasting than it need have been. Just removing diff end would be enough to check though. Take a look at upper rear damper mounts too, bounce the body and look for play. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

The obvious has been mentioned by me or others yet.
Is it your rear door, or spare wheel carrier. They are very well known for banging about and require adjustment. |

I’ll have another look at the UJs then.
I did wonder if it was something like the rear door as, once or twice, it sounded like the noise came from inside. I’ll double check but I think I had a look at the door and carrier last week. Jack or wheel brace, where ever that may be, even in the battery box.

Ah, it could be actually. I’ve got one of the big Mercedes Sprinter jacks in the seat box and it could have moved slightly. I’ll have a look in daylight. I remember the wheel chock came loose once and sounded like something underneath was about to rattle apart. Charlie

Righto, on my way back from York this clunk has developed . . . It is now a squeak and rattle at low speeds. Am I right in saying that these noises are almost certainly the symptoms of a dying UJ? Charlie
