On mine (1994 SW) I had a lot of the same white pasty 'gloop' underneath the 2nd row seats. Definitely catalytic corrosion where the alu. tub floor met the steel of the chassis supports and middle cross-member.

I fixed this with a repair panel from YRM (might be pics on my rebuild thread, but this job might predate my Def2 membership) Later I found holes where the 2nd row seatbelts bolt through onto the chassis.

The only thing I 'spilt' there might have been salt water draining from scuba diving kit in my more careless days.

When I fixed this, and on anything subsequently, I've made very sure to put PVC/nylon gaskets between any steel and alu. Really surprising over time to find that there was none of this done at the factory.

More recently I've fitted a whole new floor and crossmembers. Donald

As I’ve said before though if the rear tub had been covered in soundproofing I wouldn’t have been aware of the corrosion being present.

Absolutely, but also consider any covering effectively traps in moisture and accelerates the corrosion. Dynamatting a Landrover in the UK, is creating problems down the road unless you go to extreme lengths to isolate the different materials.

A little of what is/was in mine this week:

Apologies due.......I missed some of the replies relevant to this posting in February (not sure how as I usually get emails to inform of replies).
Some of your posted pics and written descriptions mirror my problems, pasty gloop etc.
I must get the rear seats out along with the rubber floor mat and have a good poke around.
I’d be interested if anyone knows if you can get replacement floor panels and the raised squared off sections at the sides....
Just curious.
I’m of a mind to plate over with aluminium if it’s not to bad, as was suggested.
Thanks again for your input Thumbs Up
