I am in the market for new tyres and BFG ATR KO2 in particular - what are the benefits in going from the 235/85/16 that I have to the 285/85/16 that are on sale here ?? many thanks Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

I wouldn't say theres any pros or cons really. they're a bit taller so some ground clearance is gained.

There's quite a bit to consider in terms of pros ans cons - these are effectively 33 inch tyres, not the standard 31 inch. If you have a long range fuel tank in the rear wing (as I do) then the 33's will rub.
So first consideration is height - have you got clearance. Next is gearing - if you're running a 1.4 transfer box they'll be fine, if you're on a 1.2 it will be a bit hard when puling away. (Not sure about TDCi gearing though). Finally width - I've done some back to back vehicle comparisons in sand, wider tyres definitely allow higher speeds / lower power for a given set of revs and tyre pressures. Equally in some circumstances (wet grass for example) narrower tyres can give more grip. Hope this helps. |

Just picked up a full set of wheels and tyres from Andy (AJC) and have already found the noise is about half that with the previous wrangler MTR’s
The ride is a little different too with the taller tyres and the old wheels on the roof. Many thanks to Andy for the cuppa and his outstanding effort in fitting them and helping to load up the old set Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

^^^ Is that like buying new shoes and wearing them home; putting the old ones in the box?

Those wheels and tyres make your truck look so cool! What have you put on it now instead? Can we see?

That’s so right Jim, the MTRs will be put to good use on the off road work with 4x4response on my partners 110 (poppy does get muddy but not as serious as my partners 110!) The drive south has found the ride to be much quieter and smoother... just got to work out the best tyre pressures for the set... thinking of 40psi rears and 30 psi fronts ... any advice anyone ? (Pic before adding air to the tyres .....)
