My 2.4 has had the BAS 170 remap (plus intercooler)for around 5 years, just got back from another 3,600 mile continental trip and cannot imagine that it would have been as relaxed or enjoyable in a standard Defender.
As you say Pete Bell has the best customer support I have ever experienced. Sound choice notxal Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. |

Can i ask what difference having the remap has made to the insurance premium?
(I'm tempted but not sure what impact it would have on insurance & warranty.) |

Will find out the insurance difference in the morning when I call them up. Looking through the archives anywhere between £20 - £40 have been mentioned.

I went straight for the BAS170AB, but like you say total transformation! Didn't increase insurance premium! But that's with LR specialist forum sponsor A-Plan. NFU had previously walked away mentioning modified engine!
Very nice second mod of transport! Might handle a little better but I bet it still leaks! BAS have been very quiet on here recently, so good to know they are still paddling along like the proverbial Swan. 👍

Not sure where the typo lies as there's going to be a big difference between % and £ on a figure of 40... |

Mine went up £11 after the BAS150 with LB. Well worth it!

I went with A Plan when I had my BAS170 remap. They were the same price as the renewal price I'd just had from my current insurers who didn't (and wouldn't) include the remap.
It certainly is a great mod. |

I have had mine in for a fair while now. The bit that surprised me was not the extra power but just how much better the engine runs and sounds most of the time. Lost the 'Fordson Major cackle' coming out of slow corners and just generally much better all round.
If only BAS did a remap for the gearbox as well --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

How have you found reliability over time with these remaps?
I had no end of problems after having my Td5 (D2) remapped (head gasket, exhaust manifold...). I know these were reasonably common issues with the engine anyway and it could have been coincidence, but it was always in the back of my mind that the remap was the beginning of the end. My 2.2’s done 76,000 miles now and would certainly benefit from the drivability and smoothness that, particularly the 150 BAS remap, seems to impart. The fact that the ‘Autobiography’ map was used on factory 2.2’s also gives me some confidence. 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey 2003 D2 Td5 Black [SOLD] |
