Could also be an earth fault behind the dash somewhere. There's not going to be an easy answer, unfortunately. It'll just be a case of tracing wires and checking connections. Darren

Usually earth problems, or frayed wire which would account for the intermittent connection when the car is moving over bumps etc. but the stalk could be on the way out also. I am on my 3rd stalk after 6 years.. Jeff
