Chances are, the squeel is actually the back of the pad and not the friction surface.

Yup, mine scream like a banshee most of the time, it is loud enough to make people look round. I have tried all the conventional rememdies, and the sqeal always come back eventually.
They also rattle when not appplied as you drive along, and this too seems impossible to cure. |

Only solution I found was a new set of pads

Get occasional squealing but it's very quiet. Doesn't bother me. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

My offside front squeals occasionally. It's not bad, so it doesn't bother me, and also it's intermittent.

Yup, back passengers side always squeals and always has done since Ive had it. One of those things I think! 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

Looks like I'll try the cooper slip and if not put up with it. Dosn't really jar me off much just noticeable.
