That's what I'm looking for thanks for that. I have a simple Trangia to warm water and cook with but this allows you to stay in the vehicle if the weather isn't great and it's a lot simpler but slower.
I presume the 12V connection comes from the plug which I have just used to plug the tow bar electrics into (back of rear light!) Can you connect it from anywhere else in the back or buy some sort of double plug adaptor? Noworries 1000 Watt thing sounds a bit pricey and professional for me just making a cuppa! |

As has been covered before there's a spare power feed behind the right rear speaker housing hence it being a popular place to add a power socket. Next question? Steve. As MOG says there are two wires behing the speaker panel with a perm live and earth - they are usually taped to the side of the loom and totally seperate to the towing electrics.
You can either remover the panel completely or just the speaker. I removed the panel completely to drill a hole for the socket. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Forgive all the dog & horse hairs and spatters of mud over the door and general non pristine appearance Zag Here's a photo of where I put the rear worklamp switch too - just in case you wake up in the night with an urgent need to know Click image to enlarge Steve. Thanks for that, Are there particular sockets to get or am I just looking for a 12V socket from Halfords?
Somthing like this maybe with a 20 amp limit http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=sho...;Itemid=14 So I presume there is a spare wire behind each rear speaker as a rear light would be handy Last edited by Zagato on 9th Jun 2011 12:16pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Mine are just 12v cigarette lighter style sockets, Vehicle Wiring Products or similar will be able to supply everything you need. http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-...mepage.php http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-...12vacc.php Don't forget we are talking Land Rover, one spare power outlet behind one speaker panel is deemed quite enough! From memory there is only power on the one side. I have used the 12v marine grade sockets from MSS and Mudstuff before which are standard 'fag lighter' types - I would steer clear of any cheap options. This time I fitted a Hella type socket as they have a 'tighter' connection and I have a number of items with a Hella plug fitted. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Just spoken to Devon 4x4 who said I need to find out what amp-age the existing Defender wire is capable of and suggests it would be a good idea to put a fuse in somewhere or better run a thick wire from the battery with a fuse in it
I'm probably only ever going to use it for a mobile light and a kettle rated at 14 amps max Mudstuff also don't know what the Defender wires are rated at and suggest finding out before plugging in a 14 amp kettle in. ANYONE know |

The spare feed is constantly live and fused, I blew mine and it's one of the fuses in the drivers seatbox. If you are going to run high draw items off the socket then yes I would run a new, fused cable direct from the battery. Steve. I like the dual fuel Coleman stoves! |
