I was (lucky) to see them several months ago including a 130 at a customer focus group.

there is no denying they are great vehicles and I've no doubt they will be great off road, I also expect the sales will be good but they are not aimed at the same market as the old defender.

If I was in the market for a 45k + car and was well off I would consider one but only if I could keep my 2.4 2011 one as well, its not a traditional defender replacement its a completely new animal for a completely different market. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I can't imagine one lasting more than a few days at most, but given the price tags what company would subject one to the sort of conditions in the mining industry.

No ladder frame, no. No word from Bowler yet on the news section of their website. I wonder what they make of it? Can the new Defender be beefed up to take what Bowler throw at it? I suspect not. The Ineos version is looking more and more interesting. I also wonder if the British army has seen the Ineos version. Now left.

Not mentioning the price that is a huge barrier
It's a nice SUV, probably with a quite good offroad capabilities, better than Defender in some sense but I'm not sure if can last 10+ years as a working horse (as mine).

But the target segment is not ours as Grenadier said.

Taking the price out of the equation I have voted yes.

When looking at the Range Rover development from the basic vehicle in the 70’s to where the Range Rover is now is an interstellar jump in size, technology, safety and comfort. The same with the Discovery.
To my way of thinking the defender has missed many of the ‘upgrades’ that the Range Rover has had and time has caught up with it. So now it has gone from a basic vehicle to a modern technological marvel on one massive jump - and the price tag is monumental.

Its not the same defender that I have parked on the drive, as much as the classic Range Rover is not the same as the current full fat version, or my partners D5 is the same as her first D1... Development is a dynamic process that the defender has not had in such a large step, while the other vehicles have evolved in regular steps, the defender has reached the point of satiation so needed a new start.

So its not in my price range and I may never be able to afford one ... but the same goes for an Aston Martin Vanquish, (drool!)

The possible way to look at this is that the price of a new Defender could be used to totally rebuild a defender from the ground up, with all the nice things like a galvanised chassis, modern electrics, less tech engine, and improved suspension etc ... it would come in cheaper than the £45k basic price and still be a vehicle to cherish.

just my thoughts .. maybe in 5 yrs time I may get a ‘3rd' or ‘4th' hand one on a trade in for my retirement .. but unlikely a new new one! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
