There may be 1000 reasons for the problem but I had the same problem with a Rover 420 ( company car and it does have rover in the title so don't throw insults )
It was a bad earth due to the paint not being removed under a contact after the front end was replaced. ( drove into the side of a bridge off a slip road , what I did to get rid of that car ) It is kinda funny when you take the key out , get ou and then realise the car is still running. 2011 Defender XS 110 Station Wagon - Rejected 2008 Discovery 3 XS Auto (Gone) 1997 Discovery ES Auto 300TDI (Traded in on a flat bed) |

Wouldn't this awful problem point towards an ignition problem? Earth or otherwise?

Fuel pump stop solenoid would be the first thing I would be putting a multimeter onto next time it happens. Just in case it is a sticking solenoid or if not it would then give you a starting point to trace the fault back to the ignition module. And as you will have the connection off, give it a clean and a spray of ACF-50 to help conductivity. |
