these are really common to break on the TDci filter heads, i always blow them out with the air line, then straw on the silicone spray and give it a good blast in around the blue clip and the two "holes' on the bottom of the clip.

Whoever decided to fit the TDCi filter head with plastic spigots really needs a good talking to, it was a really bad idea! As noted above, this is a very common problem.

I got a pair of these thinking i may never use them , though will say on these type of connectors they really are a god send.
They allow the pipe to be removed without stress of strain on the fitting, Click image to enlarge |

They’re for the “bmw” push style and very good I’ve knippex plug boot pliers I use for the same thing, there’s a “slide in” disconnect tool a bit like aircon disconnects for the “Ford” style larger connects

Are the pipes on the fuel filter housing plastic? I thought they were metal?
I actually replaced this hose to the fuel tank not too long ago as I kinda suspected that it was a potential air ingress source to my fuel system (it wasn't) and I was thinking of just getting rid of the push fitting then just clamping that sucker down with a traditional hose clamp line the good 'ol days. Will there be a potential issue is this were done? |

They’re plastic. I don’t see why you couldn’t go old school and use normal pipe and jubilee clips.
The pipes were difficult to get off as the clips on the main fuel feed pipes were full of dirt and wouldn’t release properly. Had to clean them out and help them off with a small screwdriver. Fitted the new filter housing and made a siphon pump (thanks to another thread on this forum and Amazon). I cut the ends off the old filter housing to make the right end for the suction pump to connect to the fuel line engine end and got all the air out. Had a pretty sleepless night on Sunday as she (the Landy) had to be recovered to the public carpark around the back of our house as we couldn’t get her back on our drive. It’s in a very quiet village, but you never know what those thieving will do. She’s back in the relative safety of our garden and under cover .. Glad to know your Landy is safe and sound now.
So I guess I should get some hose clamps (jubilee clips) ready for any future, on demand "upgrades" to the connection. There should still be enough slack in the hoses to pull this off, correct? |
