So after lengthy trouble shooting I have decided I need to replace my indicator/ horn/ lights stalk.
Am going to get this item: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFE...0887386457 Looking at the pictures, does the steering wheel need to come off to fit this over the splined column? Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for that, tried to remove it a few weeks ago to check no. of splines but would not budge, may need to find a local garage with a puller.

I have fitted a replacement switch before now without removing the wheel, by taking the switches off their respective metal plates and just swapping the switches. It is possible.
However if you are tempted be careful since there are little springs and internal component which can fall out (the springs will depart at high speed) if you're not very careful, then you have to figure out how to put it back together again. It is perhaps telling that the second time I changed the stalk switch I took the steering wheel off, and also rewired the headlamps to use a proper relayed circuit to stop the switch failing every six months. |

I need to replace mine too, my only concern is getting the wheel off and it not budging.
Would a soft mallet help break the tightness used carefully? I know the nut should stay partially on whilst trying to remove the wheel. If a puller was needed. (Hopefully not.) what type would be needed for a steering wheel like in the above video? Pullers can be a godsend if you have something really tight, much akin to like the wiper spindles. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ Last edited by custom90 on 24th Jun 2019 8:26pm. Give the splines a good soak in WD40 or releasing fluid for a few days/week. A quick squirt once a day.

Stick your knees under the steering wheel whilst hitting the top with your hands. Always works for me

You can make a puller out of a small offcut of steel with two appropriately drilled holes and two m6 bolts > 110 XS Double Cab

Thank you all.
Mine is working, but the clip around the column is broken so the assembly is a bit loose. It's a job I need to get done at some point shortly. I was going to go for the Lucas type as mentioned here. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

So... got the wheel off, rubber mallet required.
New stalk arrived but in testing by hand left turn goes fine, indicate, turn blue collar to simulate turning wheel, feel click, rotate back to centre and indicator self cancels. Do the same to the right and the indicator cancels as you make the initial turn... |

Pattern or Lucas switch? Either way it's faulty (lots of them do it).
It can be sorted but means disassembling the switch which has little springs and pins everywhere, and you shouldn't be doing it with a brand new item. I would be seeking a replacement. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Yes, if a brand new item I would be asking for a replacement as it's not fit for purpose if it doesn't operate correctly. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Agreed, will report back on progress.
It's a real pain when you are geared up to do what should be a simple job and have to put it on hold and reassemble everything. |
