The newest motor I have ever owned
First post so please be gentle. I have owned many older Land Rovers from a 1958 sII, Discovery 200Tdi, 110 TD5's, 90 TD5's over the years (so I am aware of their qualities Laughing ) but I have saved up and treated myself to a 10 plate 90 Very Happy Whilst looking at it on the forecourt I advised the salesperson of dampnes on the chasis and much water in the footwells and the rear load area. The reply was one of being recently valeted and the props being recently greased... Laughing Laughing OK, I knew different but who am I to argue Rolling Eyes 100 miles later and oil all over my customers drive-not a happy bunny! Turned the hosepipe on the back door to wash off a load of dust resulting in the dashboard getting a soaking Evil or Very Mad The vehicle was picked up from my work with a brand new freelander curtisy vehicle. The leak from the gearbox repaired, the rear door leak improved, slightly (I could see light through the gap!!)

After unreplied emails and telephone calls from the sales person, don't forget this is a new experience for me, I decided to contact the after sales directly. As always, I was more than polite in my manner, to be spoken to by an arrogant young girl. I ended the conversation without a result. Funny how much my praise for the dealership had changed to dissmay within a few weeks.

Now that I feel a little fobbed off, I need some info on what I should expect regarding a curtisy vehicle. The dealership is 30+motorway miles from home (not a bus ride) Should they supply a vehicle? The mud flap fixings are peeling/rusting-should these be replaced or repainted? The front door seals leak, we can also see a lot of light at the bottom of each door pillar (where the little sticky block of foam is) I also have no service book/history. I believe that I must have the vehicle maintained in order to keep the warranty valid. It has only covered 5000 miles.

Sorry for the long rant-I just need to know that I am not asking for anything unreasonable. Very Happy

Nothing unusual there from a dealer and standard defender issues im afraid.

I would have expected/demanded a car - if picked up by LRE then they WILL get you one and are very good. Mike

I would call them up to arrange some warranty work and tell them that you want a courtesy car, that way they can't fob you off on Hertz or Enterprise.

Welcome to the site Very Happy

No you are not being unreasonable.

Remember you are under no obligation to use the same dealer to carry out warranty work, any franchised LR dealer can/will do so so you don't have to put up with them if you have the option of using somewhere else.

You should definitely get a courtesy vehicle for warranty work - probably a Freelander 2.

As for the service book, have you asked for the missing book from the supplying dealer - I assume it was a franchised LR dealer you bought it from?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hiya Nick Very Happy

Welcome , you stalking me lol?

You are not being unreasonable, all your issues are valid points which should be addressed under warranty. And yes, they should provide you with a courtesy car if available.

Might be worth dropping a mail/call to Landrover customer relations [0870 5000500] www.landrover.com and seeing their reaction - worked for me lol Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Dog cages
Strugling with the photo posting-these are without the storage boxes underneath. The sides are lined in plastic and joints welded.

Hi Nick,

Which dealer is causing you so much grief? Always interesting to know who is letting us down.

To avoid the expensive 08xx numbers you can call Land Rover on 0121 722 2424 and ask for customer service. I would definitely speak to them and you will probably find them very helpful.

As others have commented find yourself a decent dealer - Hillendale would probably work well for you if I have got your location right. Proud owner 110 Utility XS
