I have recently tried to do a software update (10.14.5) & the update is stuck part way through.
I have tried rebooting etc & I cannot for the life of me delete the partial update to then reload it. A search on on the web hasn't helped me. Any ideas how to get everything back up & running smoothly. TIA Guy May your life be like toilet paper ; long & useful. |

Yep, been there. I love Macs but after 4 or 5 years I don’t update them anymore as they just can’t take the complexity. I’ve had two E Macs and an I Mac go this way.

You need to enter recovery mode, then reinstall a fresh version of osx.
Restart your mac and hold down cmd and r until the Apple logo appears. You should enter recovery mode and have the option to reinstall osx. |

Sorry I cannot help you resolve the problem but you do have my sympathy. Every time I update my Macbook Pro I suffer from having between a day and two days of the thing continually crashing. After a couple of days at most it's back to normal until I update the software again. It's been like that ever since I updated from High Sierra to Mojave. Defender 90XS SW

Hi
Balvaig had the right answer ! Previous attempts at starting up in safe mode didn't work but CMD & R did. About an hour of re loading & then it still showed that an update was required. Fortunately this small update went through so all sweetness & light now guy May your life be like toilet paper ; long & useful. |

Glad you are sorted and back in action.
Bit frightening when it happens though. Hope you have backups and time machine switched on! |
